about

The songs of Mount Gomery could be compared to the soundtrack of a silent film. There is a disconnect between the dull image and it’s aural compliment but the potency and intimacy of the tunes demand relevance and explanation. The need to put words to a scene. The urge to unite. To discover the deepest meaning.

Guitarist and song writer Ryan Hare is braving unfamiliar ground with his solo project Mount Gomery. Previously established as solely a group player in experimental punk bands Monera and Faello Nor, Hare has taken his first stab at minimalist song writing. After successive band break-ups and a blind and unfruitful move to a new city Hare found himself stifled and unsure of how to form his creativity. He found that only his voice was able to express the changes around him.

The debut album In Series is an unprecedented display of Hare’s melancholy, minimal and overtly personal songs. Intrinsic guitar textures lay soft ground for beautifully gentle vocals that convey the image of a star filled sky on the darkest night. Tiny spots of hope in a cold and barren place. The album also includes astonishing climatic pieces of real rip-your-heart-out rock music featuring contributions from Tim Byrnes (Hazel-Rah, Kayo Dot), Marie Kim (Good News Bears, All These Kings) and Dan Romans (the DRX).

In Series truly sounds lush and pleasing. The album was engineered and produced by Zach Lipkins (Dreambear.org,) and Marie Kim (Blank Paper, All These Kings) and will be released this April by New Jersey label Nefarious Industries. Mount Gomery is the kind of band that is going to sneak up on everyone. This release is going to open many doors for the artist as well as the listener. Before you know it, Mount Gomery will end up being Hare’s most successful and most worthy discovery, again, for the artist and the listener.

Track Name: Floods
She thirsts inside me
It’s where I’ve placed her
A hard denial
While she picks at my bones

I watch you like running water
The undying source and impending flood

Rake my chords, plant yourself
Build a soft oasis
Ill sprout aching nourishment

I watch you like running water
The undying source and impending flood

A graceful dance with sinew streamers
Wrapping your curves
Draping your earth
Track Name: Antlers on the Wall
Pairing winds split like struck trees
She said, “in this sun our grain runs the same”
She stares through the same stained leaves
Perched claws unwoven by branches split inside
But life grows toward earth and sky
Blades down
Blades up
Track Name: Sandlots
You’re treating the tracks as if three don’t exist
But networks and shine
Will snap in time
Your pressured cells buckle

But everything seems possible

Take in that fragrant atmosphere
It’s toxic trick makes your nerves swim
Drown in it
Forget the surface

‘Cause everything seems possible

Surrounding
Facets of marrow
Sulking
Spoiled skull rot
Stretching
Snapped in shots of elastic wonderment
Breathe in
Track Name: Episode IV
Regal and well versed in our social apostrophes
Spelling a need to impress
Impressing, to sell a need

I’m here to put my nose in it
Crawl through this stark enchantment
Find the solace center pit
Disrupting urban traffic
Traversing sinking streets

Sometimes the matter
It turns so soft
Thumbs pushed so sea deep

There’s always more to ignore
I have these depths to taste
This is me, within me, within me
This is what you said I need

Sometimes the matter
It turns so soft
Thumbs pushed so sea deep

I’m fostered and yours
No matter the discourse
I was heading into weight
A ways away
But I still have depths to taste
Track Name: Invest
The most radical of bridges
Will require anchors on both ends
To forge ahead

Most will leave the anchor unattended
Barking at superficial and scattered moons
Scattered planets

Please invest in this air
We promise it may hurt

Those that cherish
Those that venerate the simmering construction surrounding
Are clinging to their insides
Clawing their way out
An open invitation

Please invest in this air
We promise it may hurt
Track Name: The Stain (Bonus Track)
These monsters are cast in bronze
Unforgiving in stature and gaze
Tripping up cerebral marathons
Molding a comfort phrase into syntax jigsaws
I forgot the serene collective blood pool
And it’s love-stained tub ring
With you I’ll soak along
